Tips for your funky tea party. How to put on the daintiest, prettiest, most splendid tea party!

De Vrije Werkplek Amsterdam Afternoon Tea

What’s better than a bunch of good ‘ol ‘creative friends getting together for a warm and comforting cuppa on a cold Amsterdam Thursday afternoon? That same bunch of peeps with a visit from their good ‘ol friend Nadalissa Tea-ser and her Funky Tea Time crew, armed with the perfect afternoon tea requirements.

Translated from Dutch, ‘De Vrije Werkplek’ means ‘the free workplace’ which started off around six years ago by header-upper-ers Bibejan, Chai, and Ger. In Funky Tea Time terms aka Bibejam, Chai Latte, and Gerry Pie respectively.

Tea partyDe Vrije Wekplek leases out desk and office spaces to freelancers on Amsterdam’s Leidsestraat and these talented beings include script writers, journalists, documentary and film makers, actresses – to name but a few.

Recently, De Vrije Werkplek made the move to its current site due to change of ownership at the previous site. The new site features an intimate old library-feel room, which features beautifully embossed woodwork, and a fireplace. There are a few open areas, which are separated by stairs and hallways, so there is an abundance of workspace choice. Did I mention the stairs also creek? Well they do, and there is also an atrium, with ample natural light and the perfect spot to hold a tea party.

Now, to the tea party. In true Dutch fashion, we transported the tea party goods to De Vrije Werkplek by bike basket and I introduced the Dutch folk to some good old-fashioned, home-made lamingtons which were well received. The spread also included scones with clotted cream and jam, brownies, an apple pie, and sandwiches to include salmon and cream cheese, tuna and mayonnaise, avocado and cream cheese, cucumber and cream cheese, and egg and mayonnaise. And not to forget: a range of Pick-wick teas, of course!

The table décor featured oh-so-pretty polka-dots, rose table clothes, and plenty of cutesy tea pots and cups featuring roses and flowers, and all things nice!

As always, a great time was had by all! So for your next morning tea , afternoon tea, or anytime-in-between-tea, drop us a line and make it a Funky Tea Time!

Nadalissa Tea-ser xx
